SUD and behavioral health EMR: what to separate from a general chart
Updated 2026-10-17
The record is part of the confidentiality rule
A behavioral health EMR has to do more than store notes. When the program is a Part 2 program, records that identify someone as having or having had a substance use disorder are restricted. Sharing them generally requires written consent, a specific exception, or a qualifying court order. HIPAA alone does not describe that limit.
Clinics shopping for software should separate three questions. What clinical work does the product support? What confidentiality controls does the vendor actually describe? Where is it in use? A feature list that is not tied to a named workflow is not evidence.
Health OS, as MASE describes it
Health OS is MASE's EMR for behavioral health and substance use disorder programs, including opioid treatment program dosing and inventory workflows. Documented controls are: inventory corrections that require two staff members plus a separate approver, overrides that require a human e-signature, and alerts that are decision support only.
MASE does not describe Health OS as a certified Part 2 product, and this site does not display a certification badge. The public marketing site does not accept or store patient records. A longer plain-language page is at https://www.mase.health/compliance.
Where it is live
MASE is live at Serenity Rehabilitation Center in Pontiac, Michigan, and at one practice in Texas. This page does not state a national site count, a patient census, or a survey pass rate.
Organizations that want a conversation about Health OS can start at https://www.mase.health/request-demo. Organizations that want launch planning, rather than a product demo, can start a launch plan at https://www.mase.health/advisory/apply.
